Imagine a day in the life of a 50 year old Japanese immigrant in the year 2035, how would their data follow them? What would commuting to work in the city of San Francisco look like? As a sponsored project with Unity and partnered with a transportation designer we looked at how translation can help assist someone not only with language, but with meaning.

JOURNEY MAP

INTERACTING WITH DATA

*pencil sketching, digital sketching, prototyping

By conducting significant research into our user, named Kakeno, and the city of San Francisco the idea of creating a system to help with translation across a person's day became our concept. This would not only help with language barriers, but also foster connection for Kakeno so when communicating with others he can understand exactly what they mean. By journey mapping a day in Kakeno’s life and analyzing different challenges / celebrations we began seeing how technology would help in this process. Many possibilities were researched and considered but we narrowed in on smart glasses, interactive surfaces and autonomous driving. Significant sketching and prototyping were executed to make sure our ideas solved Kakeno’s challenges. This was finalized with a day in the life animation to showcase the final ideas, and presentation to assist in explaining our concept.
